Buzziness from West Lodge Primary School have been crowned this year’s winners of the Peter Jones Foundation’s national Tycoon Enterprise Competition. They defeated 363 other student-led businesses and were awarded a £1,000 business grant from entrepreneur and Dragons' Den star, Peter Jones CBE.
Buzziness is a Tycoon business created by Key Stage 1-2 students from West Lodge Primary School. The students worked together to create handmade beeswax lip balms and candles using natural, eco-friendly ingredients. The team wanted to raise money for their school while working together, building resilience and having fun.
When demand for their products exceeded their expectations, they adapted by taking pre-orders and carefully managing production to keep customers informed. Their enthusiasm and commitment to sustainability helped them create a successful business with a positive environmental message.
During the 2025-26 Tycoon Enterprise Competition, the Peter Jones Foundation supported 363 Tycoon businesses, made up of 1,519 students from 101 schools by offering a total of £48,586 in goodwill loans. Tycoon is the UK’s largest free programme for young people who want to set up and run a business whilst in school. The programme helps students from 6 through to 18 develop a broad range of essential skills: including communication, resilience, leadership and creative problem-solving.
The Foundation would like to extend a special thanks to Jade Barnett, who delivered an insightful and inspiring speech. Jade was recipient of The Changemaker of the Year Award 2025 from My Life My Say and is CEO and co-founder of Power2Prevail Community, who provide those affected by the care system with the tools, resources, networks and opportunity to succeed.
Peter Jones CBE, Chairman of Peter Jones Foundation said:
“I‘ve been blown away by the ambitious and inventive businesses that have been born out of this year's Tycoon Enterprise Competition. In challenging circumstances, nearly 90% of the student start-ups we funded turned a profit and that is testimony to the drive and determination of the UK's young entrepreneurs.”
